Many men and women hit salons seeking facials on a daily basis, but any rosacea skin care plan should never utilize a facial. Many of the procedures used in facials are actually extremely damaging to a rosacea sufferer’s skin. If you have or think you may have rosacea, do not allow any of the follow procedures to be completed, even at home.
Rosacea is an untreatable condition in which the blood vessels expand and become visible, especially in the T-zone area of the face—the chin, cheeks, nose, and forehead. With rosacea, the skin takes on a very flushed, reddish appearance and often small bumps like acne will appear on the skin’s surface. To keep rosacea flare-ups at a minimum, it is essential to follow a rosacea diet and use rosacea cleanser products that do not irritate the skin.
Chemical peels and dermabrasion treatments are increasing in popularity, but they actually damage the skin on any person with rosacea. Rosacea is not curable, and removing the top layers of skin only heighten the problem because rosacea is found deep within the lowest layers of skin in the blood vessels. By removing the top layers of skin, you are not removing the rosacea, you are actually allowing the blood vessels to come even closer to the skin’s surface.
Clay and mud masks actually expose the skin to heat. Any person diagnosed with rosacea knows that heat can worsen rosacea causing flare-ups. Facial masks made from clay or mud should never be used. Instead, a light, homemade mask made from chamomile tea, oatmeal, and olive oil can be used.
For years Biore strips were popular, but for a person with rosacea, these strips pulled at the skin and made the flare-ups worse. Many rosacea sufferers have dry, thin skin to start with and these strips actually caused more irritation. The same is true with the suction devices used to remove dirt and oil from pores. They put too much pressure on blood vessels, and in some cases the smaller vessels may rupture causing an even greater flare-up.
Those with rosacea should follow a rosacea skin care plan that does not rub the skin or buff it harshly. Only soft clothes should be used to wash the face, so all scrubbing face washes should be avoided. If you’ve already gone through facial treatments, you may have learned the hard way. For those who many never have had a facial, it is strongly urged that you save your money and protect your already delicate skin.
