Ocular Rosacea Information

Ocular rosacea is a form of rosacea which affects the eyes. It is often found in people who suffer from severe, persistent rosacea.

The symptoms of ocular rosacea are eye irritation, redness and burning. There may also be a constant feeling of something in the eye and a crusty substance may form.

Almost all patients of ocular rosacea show symptoms of classic rosacea such as facial redness and flushing, particularly around the cheeks and nose area.

Ocular rosacea can be alleviated by washing the eye area with warm water and a soft cloth. Often antibiotics are prescribed. Some people undergo dietary changes such as the elimination of spicy foods and alcohol which can have a positive effect on ocular and regular rosacea symptoms.

It is estimated that around 50% of rosacea sufferers have some sort of ocular rosacea symptoms and these generally appear after the skin symptoms have occurred.

Ocular rosacea can lead to blurry vision and sensitivity to light.

If you have already been diagnosed with rosacea and notice burning, dry eyes or scaly eyes then it is important to see your dermatologist to determine if ocular rosacea is a problem for you. He will then advise on an appropriate course of treatment.
